Microsoft Office 365: Enterprise Plans Explained

By - September 16, 2013

One major advantage of a product offering like Microsoft Office 365 is being able to mix and match Enterprise Plans.  These include Enterprise Packaged Plans and also Enterprise Individual Plans.  There currently are three different packaged enterprise plans you can choose from.  These are E1, E3, and E4.  The enterprise plans are prepackaged combinations of Enterprise Individual Plans.  These include Lync Online, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, and Office ProPlus.  Your organization can have any combination of these plans assigned to users.

Office 365 Packaged Plan Contents

Heading - Office 365 Enterprise E1

E1 consists of the following Individual Enterprise Plans:

      • Exchange Online Plan 1
      • Lync Online Plan 2
      • SharePoint Online Plan 1
      • Office Web Apps (view and edit)

Since E1 does not include Office Pro Plus desktop software you will need to purchase this separately using a Microsoft Volume License Agreement or retail SKUs.  Each E1 license is currently $8.00 user/month.

E3 consists of the following Individual Enterprise Plans:

      • Exchange Online Plan 2
      • Lync Online Plan 2
      • SharePoint Online Plan 2
      • Office Web Apps (view and edit)
      • Office ProPlus Desktop Software

E3 includes Microsoft Office 2013 Professional Plus and Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac.  You can install any mix of these on up to five devices.  E3 also contains the higher level two plans for Exchange Online and SharePoint Online.  Each E3 license is currently $20.00 user/month.

Heading - Office 365 Enterprise E4

E4 consists of the following Individual Enterprise Plans:

      • Exchange Online Plan 2
      • Lync Online Plan 3
      • SharePoint Online Plan 2
      • Office Web Apps (view and edit)
      • Office ProPlus Desktop Software

E4 includes everything in E3, except you now have Lync Online Plan 3.  Lync Online Plan 3 allows you to deploy Enterprise voice capabilities using a Hybrid Lync environment.  Each E4 license is currently $22.00 user/month.

Office 365 Individual Enterprise Plans

Each of the Office 365 Enterprise Packaged Plan components can be purchased separately.

These include:

      • Exchange Online Plan 1 – $4.00 user/month
      • Exchange Online Plan 2 – $8.00 user/month
      • Lync Online Plan 1 – $2.00 user/month
      • Lync Online Plan 2 – $5.50 user/month
      • Lync Online Plan 3 – $9.50 user/month
      • SharePoint Online Plan 1 – $3.00 user/month
      • SharePoint Online Plan 2 – $7.00 user/month
      • Office ProPlus – $15.00 user/month

Office 365 Kiosk Plans

There are also limited feature Kiosk Plans for users that want to work entirely from within a web browser and their mobile devices.

These include:

      • Exchange Online Kiosk – $2.00 user/month
      • Office 365 Enterprise K1 – $4.00 user/month

As you can see there are a lot of choices with Office 365.  Some users might want the capabilities of using entire Office suite and others might be able to work from home using only a web browser.  All the plans mentioned above can be intermixed to create a customized feature set for your entire organization.

In my next post I will explain the features and capabilities of each Office 365 Individual Enterprise plan.
